Trading Standards statement about scam ‘medical machines’

Published: 14 April 2020

If you know anything about these ‘medical machines’, or are approached by anyone about them, please contact Trading Standards on 01595 744887 (or by email at trading.standards@shetland.gov.uk) or Police Scotland on 101.  You can be assured that any contact you make with Trading Standards or Police Scotland will be treated in the strictest confidence, but if you wish to remain anonymous you can also pass on information or concerns by contacting the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org.

The Trading Standards team are currently working remotely, like so many other people, but are still available to give advice and help by phone and email.  They also have packs containing information and advice to help you deal with cold callers (whether at the door, on the phone, or by text message, email or post) and other scams, and to help you support family, friends or neighbours who may be more susceptible to the high pressure tactics which are often employed – they will be happy to post one out to you if you get in touch.

If you are concerned about someone’s welfare, please tell someone who can help.
